Introduction
Mirrors reflect, show how you did your hair that morning, or a blemish that wasn’t on your skin the day before. They open your eyes to the person you’ve become and point out the good and the evil that is inside all of us. But what if mirrors had another purpose, one that wasn’t so clear, one that was hidden from our eyes. What would we do if we suddenly found that the mirror in our bedroom was a door, a gateway to another world, an ancient world. One that held creatures and objects that we’ve never imagined? A world with different rules, would we take a chance and leave our world behind to look upon the wonders of the next?
First Post
The sun was slowly fading on a perfectly good day. Kathy wondered from shop to shop on the main street of the small town that her family had picked as this year’s vacation spot. The wind blew as a light breeze, tossing her dark brown hair over her petit shoulders. Exciting, fun, adventure, none of these words came to mind while wondering about from one place to another. In Kathy’s opinion this had to be the worst vacation spot on the planet. Hell her cell phone didn’t have service most of the time and she was lucky if she could gain access to the internet.
Today Kathy had asked to strike out on her own, to rid herself of her brother and the constant nagging of her parents. The shops had little to offer her, a city girl. She’d bought one thing since she arrived and that happened to be a simple pair of flip flops. Kathy was rocking out with her ear buds in and her mp3 player attached to her hip when something caught her eye. She turned slowly and walked into a shop that seemed to be as ancient as the objects it held. Her eyes scanned from side to side as her hand lifted to yank the buds from her hears. All around here were mirrors, all different shapes, color, age, size. She’d never seen anything like it before, who would need this many mirrors?
The rows were almost haunting as she continued down the row. Her image reflected on a million different surfaces, casting her shape in a million different angels. “Freaky” she whispered to herself as she turned looking at one particular mirror. It was taller than her, about at least six feet high. It was embellished with the finest wood work she’d ever laid eyes on. Surely it was old, it just held that type of mystery that old objects did. The girls’ curiosity got the better of her and she took a few steps closer, reaching out and letting her fingers trail over the fine details, the curves of the wood, the textures. Something about this particular mirror pulled her in, caught her attention and held it. Something strange, like an ever present pull.
Kathy let her fingers trail from the fine wood work to the smooth surface of the glass laid into the frame. The pain was cool to the touch, like that of ice. She pulled her hand back sharply, startled by the temperature. Why would a pane of glass be so cold on such a hot summer day in a shop that wasn’t even air conditioned? But the questions in her mind faded as she noticed a slight shimmering for the glass before her. Had she done that? Kathy reached out again and placed her fingers to the glass, it shimmered again. Then to her amazement the glass reflected something that was not an image of herself. Green? Where those trees? No…she was surely experiencing a small amount of heat stroke. No…no those were trees! Kathy sucked in a sharp breath as she pressed her palm to the glass and it rippled like the surface of a lake. Her hand slipped through and she gasped, a cool tingling sensation flowing up her arm. This couldn’t be real…could it? Without warning she was pulled into the mirror by a force far stronger then herself. Her whole body was engulfed in shimmer silver; her skin was cooled and tingled. Kathy tried to scream but nothing left her lips and then suddenly it was completely dark.
